Delhi LG Orders Cleanliness Drive in Northeast Delhi Areas

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to launch an immediate cleanliness drive in northeast Delhi areas that lack basic amenities and sanitation services.

In a bid to address the lack of basic amenities and sanitation services in northeast Delhi, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to launch an immediate cleanliness drive in the affected areas. The directive came after the LG's visit to Burari on Wednesday, where he observed the neglect of essential civic needs in several colonies.

Delhi LG Takes Action: Cleanliness Drive to Transform Northeast Delhi

Poor Infrastructure and Sanitation Conditions

During his visit, the LG noted that only 70% of the area had access to Delhi Jal Board sewage lines, with household connections still pending. Furthermore, only 17 out of 80 colonies had constructed roads, and even the main road leading into the area from Outer Ring Road was in a deplorable state due to neglect and disrepair. The streets were filled with dust, drains were clogged with overflowing dirty water, and garbage from the area was being disposed of on the Yamuna floodplain.

Residents' Concerns

Local residents brought to the LG's attention that the future needs of the area were not taken into account when the sewer lines were laid on the main road. The delay in completing these lines, resulting in open excavated roads, had caused persistent traffic congestion, dust, and debris dumped on sidewalks.

LG's Dismay and Instructions

The LG expressed visible displeasure over the poor state of roads, overflowing sewers, heaps of garbage, broken pavements, and dividers in the area. He expressed anguish that such apathy from government agencies had led to pitiable living conditions in one of the most densely populated areas of the city. Accompanied by senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and MCD, the LG instructed them to take immediate steps to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in the area.

The LG's directive highlights the urgent need to address the infrastructure and sanitation issues faced by residents in northeast Delhi. The immediate cleanliness drive aims to improve the living conditions and ensure the well-being of the people in these neglected areas.
