Delhi HC Suspends Sentences Of 4 Convicts In Soumya Vishwanathan Murder Case
In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has decided to suspend the sentences of four individuals who were convicted for the murder of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan.
The division bench comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Girish Kathpaliya has suspended the sentences of the individuals until the pendency of their appeals in the matter.

Advocate Amit Kumar, representing Baljeet Malik and Amit Shukla, said that they have been in custody for 14 years and 10 months. The trial court had sentenced Ravi Kapoor, Ajay Kumar, Baljeet Malik, and Amit Shukla to life imprisonment after convicting them of murder and other offenses under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Earlier, on January 23, the Delhi High Court had issued notice to the Delhi police regarding a plea seeking suspension of sentence (bail) until the disposal of their appeals against conviction and sentence. The High Court has admitted their appeals against conviction and the imposition of double life sentences.
The nominal rolls of the convicts were obtained from the jail. They were found guilty of murder and operating a crime syndicate. The court had ordered that the convicts serve their life sentences.
