Delhi: Blast at petrol pump at Vasant Kunj, 2 injured

, July 13: At least two persons were critically injured when an explosion hit a petrol pump at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi on Sunday, July 13.

According to sources, one of the machines caught fire when a car drove off without the nozzle being unplugged from the vehicle triggering an explosion.

According to initial reports, the explosion happened as a car, which had come to the petrol pump for a refill, accidentally drove off with the nozzle still in the car. The car sped off, leading the petrol pump machine to get uprooted and dragged along for a while.

The sparks caused fire, which further triggered an explosion. The two injured persons have been identified as the petrol pump workers. One of the injured received severe injuries. The two were rushed to a near by hospital.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire, which could otherwise cause greater damage. Informations regarding the car owner are yet to be known.
