Delhi Elections: Yogi Asks Kejriwal If He Dares Take a Dip in Yamuna
In his inaugural election campaign speech in Kirari, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called on voters to rally behind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections. He promised progress, better law enforcement, and a governance free from corruption, attracting a large crowd of supporters. His campaign emphasized the development and safety improvements BJP aims to bring to Delhi.
Adityanath didn't hold back in his critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, particularly targeting the state of the Yamuna River's pollution. He openly doubted whether Kejriwal or any of his ministers would dare to bathe in the Yamuna, highlighting this as a failure of the AAP government. "Can Kejriwal and his ministers bathe in the Yamuna? I don't think they would dare, and I don't think the people of Delhi will forgive him for this negligence," he stated, pointing out the neglect towards maintaining the river's cleanliness.

Furthermore, he lambasted the condition of Delhi's infrastructure outside of the NDMC area, mentioning the deplorable state of roads, water supply, and electricity. He reminisced about a time when Delhi was sought after for its infrastructure and cleanliness, contrasting sharply with the current scenario where roads are marred by potholes, and garbage piles up in streets.
The Chief Minister continued his assault on the AAP leadership, accusing them of focusing more on social media presence than actual governance. He suggested that if the AAP had dedicated as much time to governance as they did to tweeting, Delhi might have seen substantial improvements. This marked a broader criticism of the AAP's approach to managing the city's affairs, suggesting a preference for digital presence over tangible policies.
Adityanath also addressed the mismanagement of sewage and the looming drinking water crisis in Delhi, attributing these issues to the AAP government's failure to provide basic amenities. The critique extended to the neglect of industrial zones like Okhla and the facilitation of illegal settlements, contrasting the development in Uttar Pradesh's Noida with the stagnation in Delhi.
Drawing parallels between Delhi and its neighboring areas, Adityanath highlighted the disparity in road quality and public amenities between Delhi and Ghaziabad, underscoring the AAP's failure to deliver essential services to Delhi's citizens. He also recalled the 2020 riots, implicating an AAP councilor's involvement, to emphasize the government's inability to maintain peace and safety.
Adityanath's criticism extended to Kejriwal's character, accusing him of betraying both his mentor, Anna Hazare, and the people of Delhi with unfulfilled promises. He concluded with a call for leadership that prioritizes development and public welfare over propaganda, asserting the AAP government's inefficiency across various sectors.
In a separate rally in Karol Bagh, Delhi, the UP Chief Minister thanked the attendees for their support towards the BJP and highlighted the success of the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, drawing a stark contrast between the clean Ganges and the polluted Yamuna. He challenged Kejriwal to emulate the UP cabinet ministers by taking a dip in the Yamuna, showcasing the cleanliness of the Ganges in UP as a testament to effective governance.
Despite the rich history of Delhi spanning over 5,000 years, Adityanath pointed out the migration of people to places like Noida and Greater Noida for better infrastructure and facilities, further criticizing the AAP government's failure to clean the Yamuna River. This narrative underscored the central theme of development and cleanliness that Adityanath and the BJP aim to bring to Delhi, contrasting it with the AAP's governance failures.
