Delhi Drug Bust Uncovers Alleged Political Party Links of Main Accused Jitender Gill

Delhi Police have detained another individual linked to the city's largest drug seizure. Investigators discovered that the primary suspect had alleged connections with leaders of a national political party, according to officials. Jitender Gill, also known as Jassi, was apprehended near Amritsar airport in Punjab. A UK resident but Indian national, Gill was attempting to return to London, stated a senior police officer.

Delhi Drug Bust Reveals Political Connections

Gill, approximately 40 years old, had travelled to India to oversee the drug cartel's operations. However, he planned to flee after four members were arrested, the officer added. Despite living in the UK for 25 years, Gill does not hold citizenship there. He is being transported to Delhi and will appear in court on Friday for custody and interrogation.

Drug Seizure Details

On Wednesday, police reported seizing over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana. The drugs, valued at around Rs 5,620 crore, were found in a warehouse in Mahipalpur, South Delhi. Tushar Goyal, aged 40, was identified as the mastermind behind the syndicate operating in India.

Goyal's social media presence revealed several photos with Congress party leaders. His purported Facebook profile features a tiger and states he is the chairman of Delhi Pradesh RTI Cell of DYPC, Indian Youth Congress. However, the Indian Youth Congress clarified that Goyal was expelled on October 17, 2022, for anti-party activities.

Arrests and Investigation

The special cell arrested four individuals on Wednesday: Himanshu Kumar (27), Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23) from Delhi, and Bharat Kumar Jain (48) from Mumbai. They confiscated over 602 kilograms of drugs stored in sacks at the warehouse. The officer mentioned that these individuals planned to distribute large quantities of drugs at concerts and upscale areas in Delhi and other cities.

Police have formed multiple teams to capture other group members. Officials indicated that about a dozen people from India and abroad were allegedly involved in smuggling banned drugs from Middle Eastern countries into India.

Political Connections and Family Ties

The officer declined to comment on Goyal's political affiliations but noted that about six individuals from India were allegedly part of his syndicate. Investigations revealed that the three-storey building where drugs were found belonged to Goyal's father, who runs a school book publishing business.

Goyal's father has been questioned by police but is not currently implicated in the syndicate. He stated he disowned his son in 2008 due to a marriage against family wishes but mentioned Goyal had visited them over the past year and a half. The father claimed ignorance about drugs being stored in the building.

Police have seized six mobile phones from those arrested and are delving deeper into the syndicate's network.
