Delhi-Dehradun Highway Expansion 2025: Six-Lane Upgrade From Meerut To Roorkee Begins

The Union Ministry of Road and Shipping has approved the expansion of the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway from four lanes to six lanes, marking a major infrastructure boost. The first phase of the project will focus on the stretch from Meerut to Roorkee, covering approximately 70 km.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will appoint a private agency to conduct surveys and prepare a detailed project report (DPR). The DPR will include plans for flyovers, underpasses, and their construction costs, ensuring the upgraded highway accommodates six lanes efficiently.

The Delhi-Dehradun highway, spanning roughly 250 kilometers, was previously expanded to four lanes in several sections by 2009. With rising traffic pressure, the NHAI has now initiated plans to widen the highway further to improve connectivity and ease congestion.

Before construction begins, NHAI officials will consult with key stakeholders, including Minister of State for Skill Development Kapildev Agarwal, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Anil Kumar, Samajwadi Party MP Harendra Malik, and local public representatives. This consultation will help incorporate public suggestions and ensure smooth project execution.

The expansion will include testing and upgrading all existing flyovers and underpasses along the Meerut-Roorkee section, with new infrastructure designed to support a six-lane corridor.
