Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely Resigns

In a blow to the Congress, its Delhi chief Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely has resigned from his post. Citing his displeasure over forging alliance with the ruling AAP, he has stepped down from his position.

In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday, Lovely said he is unable to continue as the president of the Delhi party unit. He had assumed charge of the post in August last year.

In a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, he said, "The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a Party which was formed on the sole basis of leveling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party. Despite that, the party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi,"

He has claimed that numerous decisions he made in his capacity as the Delhi Congress Chief were overridden by the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge).

"Since my appointment as DPCC President, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed me to make any senior appointments in the DPCC," he said.

Voting for all seven Lok Sabha (Parliament) seats in Delhi is scheduled to be held on May 25 in the sixth phase of the electoral process.

After meeting Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, party leader Subhash Chopra says, "I asked him what was the reason that he resigned (from the post of Delhi Congress chief). He said all the reasons have been sent to the party president. It is our party's internal matter and we will resolve it through discussion. He said he has only resigned from the post not from the party..."

On the resignation of Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely, BJP leader RP Singh says, "Things are not going well in the Congress. Ground-level leaders of the party are fed up... It seems that till yesterday they (Congress) used to accuse people of corruption, today they are contesting elections by making a compromise with the same people. How is this possible? It is clearly visible that people are feeling suffocated there, that is why they are resigning."
