Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Hands Over His Resignation To LG Vinai Kumar Saxena

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has handed over his resignation to LG Vinai Kumar Saxena, and now Atishi will stake claim to form the government in the Capital. Along with Arvind Kejriwal, the entire cabinet submitted their resignation.

It is expected that Atishi will take the oath of Chief Minister during the special session slated for September 26 and 27.

Kejriwal announced on Sunday his decision to resign from the post of chief minister of Delhi. He said then that he would only sit on the CM's chair when the people give him a "certificate of honesty".

After Kejriwal tendered his resignation, Atishi told media: "Today Arvind Kejriwal has submitted his resignation. This is an emotional moment for the party and the people of Delhi...At the same time, the people of Delhi are resolving to make Arvind Kejriwal the chief minister again...Till the elections are not held I will be looking after Delhi and we have a stake claim to form government."

She said, "False corruption charges were leveled against him (Arvind Kejriwal). The central government deployed all its agencies after him and kept him in jail in a false case. The Supreme Court not only granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal, but sharply criticised the central agencies likening them to 'caged parrot' and Arvind Kejriwal was arrested with an ill-intention."

"The decision taken by Arvind Kejriwal is one of its kind in the democratic history of the world. He said the Supreme Court verdict is not enough for him, he wants to know the verdict of the people of Delhi, and that he will sit on the CM chair only when the public says that he is honest. Today, he resigned; this is a sad moment for people of Delhi, our party and MLAs... The AAP and people of Delhi have joined the campaign to make Arvind Kejriwal the CM of Delhi once again. But till then, Arvind Kejriwal has reposed faith on me."

Senior party leader and founding member, Gopal Rai said, "Arvind Kejriwal has submitted his resignation to Delhi LG... All MLAs have together decided upon nominating Atishi as the new CM... Atishi has staked claim to form the government."
