Delhi Blast Case: Madhav Khurana Named Special Public Prosecutor for NIA Trial

Madhav Khurana has been appointed as the special public prosecutor for the Delhi blast case by the Union home ministry. He will oversee trial proceedings for three years on behalf of the National Investigation Agency.

The Union home ministry has appointed senior advocate Madhav Khurana as the special public prosecutor for a significant case. This case involves the car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, which resulted in 15 fatalities. Khurana will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in legal proceedings related to this incident.

In accordance with the powers granted by Section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, and Section 18 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Khurana's appointment is for three years. He will handle trial and other legal matters before both the NIA special court and the Delhi High Court. The appointment is effective from the notification date or until the trial concludes, whichever comes first.

Focus on Red Fort Blast Case

The NIA has made significant progress in investigating the Red Fort blast case. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident. The alleged suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) inside a Hyundai i20 car during the attack.

Umar Un Nabi was linked to a white-collar terror module uncovered by Jammu and Kashmir Police. He hailed from Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir and worked as an assistant professor in general medicine at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. The NIA has also seized another vehicle belonging to Umar for further examination.

Investigation Progress and Witnesses

The investigation into this case has involved extensive witness examination. The NIA has interviewed 73 witnesses so far, including those injured in the blast. These efforts are crucial for gathering evidence and building a strong case against those involved.

The government order detailing Khurana's appointment was issued by Joint Secretary Arvind Khare. It outlines his responsibilities and the legal framework under which he will operate as special public prosecutor for this high-profile case.

This appointment underscores the seriousness with which authorities are handling the investigation into this tragic event. The focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and holding accountable those responsible for the attack.
