Delhi BJP President Injured as Protest Calls for Kejriwal's Resignation

In a recent clash between political forces and law enforcement in Delhi, Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP president, sustained injuries during a protest near the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters. The protest was sparked by demands for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation following his arrest in connection with the excise policy case. The incident, which involved the use of water cannons by the Delhi Police to disperse BJP leaders and workers, resulted in Sachdeva being hospitalized with a shoulder injury and breathing difficulties.

BJP Chief Injured in Kejriwal Protest

The confrontation has ignited a political firestorm, with the AAP extending a rare gesture of goodwill towards Sachdeva, wishing him a speedy recovery. Despite this, the AAP criticized the incident as indicative of the declining faith in the BJP-led government, not only among citizens but also within the police force.

Before the march towards the AAP headquarters commenced, Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of lacking both moral and legal grounds to continue as Chief Minister, especially after his plea against arrest was dismissed by the high court. The protest saw participation from several senior BJP figures, including former Union minister Harsh Vardhan, national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

The situation escalated when protesters attempted to bypass a police barricade on DDU Marg, leading to police deploying water cannons. Sachdeva was notably injured by a direct hit from the water blast. Following this, he was promptly taken to RML hospital for medical attention and was reported to be under doctor's observation.

In response to these events, O P Dhankar, in charge of Delhi BJP's Lok Sabha polls, visited Sachdeva at the hospital. This visit was confirmed by Praveen Shankar Kapoor, head of the state media cell. The BJP has intensified its campaign for Kejriwal's resignation in light of the high court's decision. Meanwhile, Kejriwal has taken his challenge against the high court order to the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has acknowledged Kejriwal's request for an expedited hearing of his plea against the high court order. He has instructed Kejriwal's lawyer to proceed with sending an email regarding this matter. This development marks another chapter in the ongoing political drama surrounding Kejriwal's arrest and its fallout.
