Delhi Bawana shooting: Police probe gang rivalry after Ravi Bhardwaj killed in shop

Delhi Police are investigating the fatal shooting of Ravi Bhardwaj, 30, inside a shop attached to his home in Bawana’s Harewali village. Officers said he had two prior cases, including motorcycle theft and an Arms Act case, and suspect a targeted attack linked to gang rivalry. Three others injured are stable; no arrests yet.

Police in outer north Delhi’s Bawana said a 30-year-old man was shot dead inside a shop. The shop was attached to the person’s home in Harewali village. Police said the killing looked planned and could link to gang rivalry. The statement came on Friday, a day after the shooting.

The victim was identified as Ravi Bhardwaj. Police said Ravi Bhardwaj had two criminal cases on record. These included a motorcycle theft case and another under the Arms Act. Investigators said the method of attack suggested the shooters targeted Ravi Bhardwaj.

Bawana shooting case: How the attack unfolded

Police said the shooting happened on Thursday evening in Harewali village. Three assailants arrived on a motorcycle and went into the shop. Police said the attackers posed as customers before firing. Investigators believe the suspects were in their late teens and shot several rounds at close range.

Ravi Bhardwaj was seated at the shop counter during the firing. Three others were also hit, police said. The injured included Ravi Bhardwaj’s father Anil Bhardwaj, 55, neighbour Raj Kumar, 46, and an eight-year-old relative. Police said the group was taken to a hospital in Pooth Khurd.

Doctors declared Ravi Bhardwaj dead on arrival at the Pooth Khurd hospital, police said. The other three injured people were reported stable. Police said they are out of danger now. Officers continued to record statements from those linked to the incident.

Police said the shooters fled immediately after firing. Empty cartridges were recovered from the spot, police said. Teams are checking CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Police suspect the assailants escaped towards the Haryana side after the attack.

No arrests have been made so far, police said. Family members told police Ravi Bhardwaj had no known enmity. However, police said the way the crime was carried out pointed to gang rivalry. Officers said the murder could be the result of a conflict between groups.
