The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 on Tuesday afternoon at Vigyan Bhawan's Plenary Hall in the national capital.

Delhi Polls: High Stakes Battle

Delhi Assembly Elections

The stakes are high for all parties. AAP is eyeing a third consecutive term, the BJP is determined to wrest control of the capital, and Congress hopes for a comeback.

It is one of the two state assembly elections to be held in 2025 with Bihar's polls to follow later in the year.

In 2020, the elections were announced on January 6, polling was held on February 8, and votes were counted on February 11.

The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, dominated the last two assembly elections, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) struggled to breach single digits. The Congress, once a ruling powerhouse under Sheila Dikshit for 15 years, has failed to win a single seat since 2015.

In the lead-up to the elections, allegations of voter fraud have stirred political tensions. AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed "large-scale fraud" in voter additions and deletions in the New Delhi Assembly seat, citing evidence presented by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

Kejriwal took to social media platform X, stating, "Large-scale fraud taking place in voter additions and deletions in the New Delhi assembly. Delhi CM Atishi ji writes this letter to CEC presenting evidence and seeking time to meet."

In her letter, CM Atishi raised concerns over a significant surge in voter applications from October 29, 2024, to January 2, 2025. According to her, a total of 13,276 Form-6 applications (for adding voters) and 6,166 Form-7 applications (for deleting voters) were filed during this period. She pointed out that the deletions amounted to 5.77% of the total votes in the constituency, far exceeding the 2% threshold that mandates personal verification by the Election Registration Officer (ERO).

Atishi urged immediate scrutiny, stating, "This alarming trend threatens the integrity of the electoral process."
