A portion of the ceiling collapsed at Ambience Mall in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj area in the early hours of Monday, March 4, 2023, according to police reports. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the incident occurred past midnight when the mall was closed.

Renovation Work Underway

When contacted, a mall official revealed that renovation work was ongoing at the mall, and a section of the false ceiling unfortunately collapsed. Police confirmed that the ceiling in Ambience Mall's central hall on the top floor (third floor) partially gave way around 12:45 am, resulting in debris scattered throughout the section.

Videos of the Collapse Go Viral

Videos of the collapse quickly went viral on social media platforms. Two videos showed a substantial chunk of concrete along with a portion of the false ceiling lying on the escalators and in the walking gallery. However, the mall official clarified that the gypsum false ceiling collapsed while the mall was closed, and no damage to any shop was reported.

Investigation Underway

The mall official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that they are thoroughly investigating the entire matter. Police officials are also looking into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse. If necessary, a case will be registered.
