Delhi Airport To Be Just 20 Minutes Away With New Ring Road: Nitin Gadkari
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the recently completed Urban Extension Road (UER)-II will significantly reduce travel time from Kundli on the Delhi-Haryana border to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). This transformation will bring the travel duration down from two hours to just 20 minutes. Gadkari shared this information during an interaction with the Indian community in Prague, Czech Republic.

Gadkari stated, "The (UER 2) will reduce the travel time to IGI T3 airport to 20 minutes (from Kundli border in Delhi) instead of two hours. We have also constructed a tunnel road that passes under the airstrip to T3 of IGI airport."
He continued, "On the way to Delhi, after Panipat, there is a peripheral ring road. Beyond that, a new ring road known as UER 2 has been constructed in Delhi. It is expected to be opened to the public in the next two to three months. Once this road is operational, you will be able to reach T3 airport directly in just 20 minutes, instead of the previous two hours. A significant tunnel has been built within the road at the Shiv Murti junction, which passes below the airstrip."
UER 2 is the country's first elevated urban expressway and aims to alleviate traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram. The entire project carries a cost of Rs 9,000 crore.
Nitin Gadkari had previously stated in May that the expressway would be operational before December.
Key Features of the Expressway:
- It spans 29 kilometers and is the country's first elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway.
- Toll collection on the Dwarka Expressway will be fully automated, and the entire project will be equipped with an Efficient Transport System (ITS).
- The road network of this expressway includes a tunnel, underpass, grade road, elevated road, and a flyover constructed above the flyover.
- It will enhance connectivity between Haryana and West Delhi with the IGI Airport. In Haryana, the expressway intersects with Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai.
- It also crosses the Delhi-Rewari railway line near Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER 2 at Bharthal. The expressway will connect Global City to Dwarka Sector-21 via Gurugram Sectors 88, 83, 84, 99, and 113.
- Travelers using the Dwarka Expressway are anticipated to cover the distance from Dwarka to IGI Airport in just five minutes, significantly improving the mobility of Gurugram residents.
