Ban and fatwa culture growing exponentially: Cong
New Delhi, Sept 16: Congress today expressed concern that ban and fatwa culture is "growing exponentially" in the country.
"Congress is highly disturbed and concerned about the ban and fatwa culture growing exponentially across India", party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.
"We are today reeling under bans, blanket prohibitions, threats, attacks & fatwas about what we should wear, what we can celebrate, what we should eat..." he said.
His remarks came amid the backdrop of a 'fatwa' against music director A R Rehman for composing music for acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi's film on the Prophet Muhammad as a young boy and demand for a ban on the movie.
It also came at a time when there have been controversies over ban on meat during festival season in some states.
