Dehradun Innova Accident: X Takes Down Graphic Crash Footage, Cites 'Gratuitous Gore'

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has taken down a video depicting the aftermath of the tragic Dehradun accident that claimed the lives of six students, citing a violation of its content policies due to "gratuitous gore."

The fatal accident, which has left Dehradun in shock, occurred early Tuesday morning when a group of students in a Toyota Innova collided with a container truck near ONGC Chowk. The crash, which happened around 1:30 am, was so severe that the Innova, known for its five-star safety rating, was mangled into scrap metal. Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver was not at fault.

All six passengers in the Innova, aged under 25, were killed instantly, while a seventh remains hospitalized in critical condition. Disturbing footage of the aftermath showed body parts scattered across the road, and the unblurred video spread quickly across social media.

In response, X requested the user who posted the video to remove it, stating that it breached the platform's guidelines on "gratuitous gore." X's message explained that content showing excessive graphic detail, such as severe injuries, is harmful, particularly if shared with sadistic intent. The user, Chauhan, shared a screenshot of the removal request and apologized for not adding a trigger warning or blurring sensitive visuals, saying he initially found the video on social media.

Other videos from the accident's aftermath remain on X, though these have been blurred to conceal blood and protect the victims' identities.
