Army Chief Highlights Veteran Role in India's Growing Defence-Industry Ecosystem

In a significant development towards bolstering India's defence-industry ecosystem, Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande highlighted the evolving synergy between the armed forces' veterans and the indigenous research and manufacturing sectors. Speaking at the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) Summit 2024, held at the Manekshaw Centre, Gen. Pande articulated the Army's unwavering commitment to its veterans, describing it as a "sacred commitment."

Veterans Boost Indias Defence Ecosystem

The summit aimed to bridge the gap between the industry's demand for a skilled workforce and the availability of veterans equipped with unique skill sets and extensive experience. Gen. Pande emphasized the potential of these veterans in contributing to indigenous research, development, innovation, and manufacturing efforts essential for the Indian Army.

With a focus on leveraging the field experience and operational insights of veterans, Gen. Pande pointed out their suitability for roles that require an in-depth understanding of logistics, systems, and weapon platforms. He also noted their leadership qualities and comprehensive grasp of human elements as vital for designing user-friendly equipment.

Gen. Pande underscored the ongoing initiatives aimed at facilitating the smooth transition of veterans into their civilian roles. He mentioned collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for holistic skill certification based on each individual's core competency. Additionally, he highlighted Project KAUSHALVEER, which aids serving personnel in acquiring industry-standard skill certifications.

The Army chief also praised the contributions of Veer Naris, acknowledging their determination and resilience. He encouraged entrepreneurs to consider integrating them into their human capital initiatives.

Gen. Pande concluded by reiterating the importance of veterans in nation-building and their continued service to the country beyond their military careers. This initiative not only aims to enhance India's defence capabilities through indigenous efforts but also ensures a dignified and purposeful transition for veterans into civilian life.
