Defence experts hail NIA crackdown on separatists, say it shows Centre's seriousness

Defence expert Praful Bakshi said that the recent crackdown shows the "seriousness and dedication" of the Centre to "eradicate this evil of terrorism".

With the National Investigative Agency intensifying its probe against the separatists in the terror funding case, the defence and strategic matters' experts have hailed the Centre's action, saying it will help 'eradicate the evil of terrorism'.

Their reactions came after the NIA on Sunday raided the residence of a Jammu based lawyer in connection with the Hurriyat terror funding case. Devinder Singh Behl, a close aide of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was accused by the NIA of being a courier for the money sent from Pakistan.

Defence expert Praful Bakshi said that the recent crackdown shows the "seriousness and dedication" of the Centre to "eradicate this evil of terrorism".

"Perhaps, more is yet to come, because now a number of other problems will also be solved," Bakshi told ANI.

Another defence expert PK Sehgal told ANI that stone pelting incidents have come to a halt ever since the NIA operations began.

"The next person to be called or arrested by the NIA will be Syed Shah Geelani," he added.

The National Investigation Agency has also filed a FIR against an outfit called the Dukhtaran-e-Millat. The outfit is headed by one of the most dangerous women in Kashmir, Asiya Andrabi. The NIA says that she had played an active role in funding the unrest. The funds received by her organisation are under the scanner.

Last week, NIA issued summons to Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's elder son Nayeem and asked him to appear before it in connection with its probe in the terror funding case.

The NIA had earlier secured the custody of the seven Hurriyat leaders for ten days and is now in the process of establishing the financial chain. The NIA says that it had ample evidence to show that the money moved into the Valley from Pakistan through hawala channels
