Defence Colony renamed as 'Veer Bhoomi Chowk'
New Delhi, Dec 16: The Defence Colony entrance round-about was renamed as 'Veer Bhoomi Chowk' today at an event organised to commemorate Vijay Diwas.
Former Army Chief, Gen JJ Singh unveiled the new name at the event organised by Municipal Councillor Abhishek Dutt. Dutt said in addition to the renaming, a wall would also come up at the spot, bearing the names of residents of Defence Colony who have participated in various wars fought by the Indian Army after independence.

Chief Arvinder Singh and senior journalist Nitin Gokhale also participated in the event. Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is commemorated every year on this day as it marks India's military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. The end of the war was marked by surrender of 93,000 Pakistani troops.
