The students expressed solidarity with the victim's family carrying placards, raising slogans and demanding justice for her and her kins. A 23-year-old medical student was gangraped and brutalised by six men inside a moving bus on December 16, 2012, in Delhi.

The incident had sparked nationwide protests and outrage. The juvenile was among the six convicted in the case. He was released on December 20 after spending three years at a reform facility.
