Death Toll from Unidentified Illness in Rajouri Reaches Eight as Central Team Investigates
The mysterious illness in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district has claimed another life, raising the death toll to eight. A child died in a hospital on Wednesday, prompting authorities to deploy a central team of experts to investigate the outbreak in the affected village. A Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) mobile lab has been sent to Rajouri to speed up testing and identify the disease, officials confirmed.

Twelve-year-old Ashfaq Ahmed, son of Mohammad Rafiq, succumbed after being hospitalised for six days at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. He was initially referred to Chandigarh for treatment but did not survive. Ashfaq's younger siblings, Ishtiyaq, aged seven, and Nazia, aged five, also died last Thursday. The fatalities in Badhaal village of Kotranka tehsil now total eight.
Central Team and Mobile Lab Deployed
All victims were from two families in the same village. Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma visited Kotranka on Monday to evaluate the situation in Badhaal village. Seven people, including six children under 14, have died from the unknown illness. In response, a BSL-3 mobile laboratory was dispatched to Rajouri.
An official spokesperson stated that a central team of experts has been formed to support the Union Territory administration in probing the cases and fatalities. The team's involvement aims to uncover the cause of this mysterious illness affecting the community.
The deployment of the mobile laboratory is crucial for rapid testing and analysis. It is expected to provide insights into the nature of the illness and help prevent further spread. Authorities are working diligently to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to address this health crisis.
Efforts are underway to understand how this illness spreads and its potential impact on other regions. The central team's expertise is vital in identifying any patterns or common factors among those affected. This will aid in developing strategies to contain and manage the outbreak effectively.
The situation remains critical as health officials continue their investigations. The focus is on determining the source of the illness and implementing preventive measures to safeguard other residents in the area. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any symptoms promptly.
Authorities are committed to resolving this health emergency with urgency and precision. They aim to protect public health by identifying the illness swiftly and implementing appropriate interventions. The collaboration between local officials and central experts is key to managing this challenging situation.
