It's a triumph over male chauvinism, says Subramanian Swamy on triple talaq verdict

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP member Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday said,''It's a great day and a day of victory for the brave and courageous Muslim women and is triumph over male chauvinism.''

''It's a huge step towards women empowerment... The next step of the government is to bring Uniform Civil Code,'' Swamy said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down instant triple talaq or talaq-biddat. This practise was challenged by several women in the Supreme Court who termed the practise as unconstitutional and violative of their fundamental rights.

The court in a 3:2 verdict struck down talaq-e-biddat and directed the centre to come up with a law to govern Muslim marriages and divorces.
