Damage Control? Israel Removes India Map That Showed J&K In Pakistan, Calls It 'Editor's Mistake'

Israel recently removed a map of India from its official website that had incorrectly depicted a portion of Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan, following a major backlash on social media.

Reuven Azar, Israel's ambassador to India, confirmed the map's removal, attributing the error to the website editor.

The issue was first highlighted by a user on X, who commented, "India stands with Israel. But does Israel stand with India? Note the map of India (pay attention to Jammu and Kashmir) on Israel's official website."

In response, Azar said, "Website editor's mistake. Thank you for noticing. Was taken down."

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country.

This incident comes as Israel deals with a multi-front conflict in the Middle East, following the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrullah last week.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 1,000 deaths and displaced more than a million people, as Israel has shifted its military focus from Gaza to Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds.

The situation worsened when Iran launched 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to threaten retaliatory strikes.

At a recent address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Netanyahu presented two maps: one depicting countries as "The Curse" and the other as "The Blessing."

Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, marked in black, were labeled "The Curse," while Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and India, marked in green, were termed "The Blessing."

Interestingly, both maps showed Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and Gaza, as part of Israel, and the Golan Heights region in Syria was also depicted as Israeli territory.
