Dalit student beaten up at law college in Muzaffarnagar

, Oct 31: A first-year

student was allegedly beaten up and casteist remarks were made against him when he opposed ragging at a law college here, police said today.

According to the victim, a third-year student of the college beat him up and hurled casteist remarks at him yesterday, police said. Based on his complaint, the police is investigating the matter.

Last week, news reports revealed that an entire Dalit family of 3 had been chopped to death and thrown in a well close to their home. With the recent spate of caste-based violence in Uttar Pradesh, it is evident that the Akhilesh Yadav government has not been able to maintain the law and order situation in the state.
