A labourer in Assam's Dhemaji district reportedly sold his 25-day-old daughter for Rs 30,000. A complaint was lodged at Silapathar police station against the parents, the buyer, and intermediaries involved in this transaction.

The infant, born on October 4 at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, was abandoned by her parents, Budhiman Borah and Sabita Borah, shortly after birth. The father works as a daily wage labourer, and the family faces severe financial difficulties. The Child Helpline in Dhemaji investigated and located the parents, who were summoned by the CWC but failed to comply.

Police reported that the parents retrieved their child from the hospital and sold her to Pegu Sohoria and her husband for Rs 30,000. The baby was eventually found at Dr. Chandrajit Doley's residence in Silapathar after authorities received a tip-off about her whereabouts.

Further investigation revealed two individuals, Bubul Borah and Dilip Saikia, were directly involved in selling the infant. Police continue to probe into this case to uncover more details about those involved in this illegal act.

The CWC chairperson Rupali Deka Borgohain confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed against all parties involved. The authorities are determined to ensure justice is served and prevent such incidents from occurring again.

Efforts are ongoing to gather more evidence and bring those responsible to justice. The case highlights the dire circumstances faced by some families and the need for stronger protective measures for vulnerable children.
