Dahi Cheeni For Luck! President Murmu, Finance Minister Sitharaman Share A Special Moment

President Droupadi Murmu wished luck to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ahead of the budget 2024 speech. The President served sweets to the Finance Minister before she entered the parliament to present the Interim Budget 2024, a budget for the next three months due to election elections slated in April tentatively.

The visuals of special moments between the President and the Finance Minister were shared on the micro-blogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, by President Murmu herself. The video shows the President feeding the Finance Minister Sitharaman with her own hands.

"Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman along with Ministers of State Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad and Shri Pankaj Chaudhary and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before presenting the Union Budget. President Murmu extended her best wishes to the Union Finance Minister," the President said in her post.

This was the finance minister's first interim budget speech. She continued the trend, that she had set in 2029, of carrying "Bahi-Khata" in a tablet wrapped in a red color pouch. "Bahi Khata" is a Hindi term used by most accountants meaning financial records.

The tablet usually carries a full fiscal year plan but this time, it was for a financial quarter only citing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. The General Elections are slated for April-May, tentatively.

The Narendra Modi government aims to glorify the Indian culture and the way of keeping things traditional, even the accounts.

In the past, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government took many decisions to adopt the Indian culture including the implementation of 50% work to be done in Hindi in all government offices.

It was expected that the finance minister would make some major announcements related to tax slabs, but she kept it simple.
