Cyclone hudhud highlights: Restoration at war-footing; state admins earn accolade
New Delhi, Oct 14: Soon after a calamity hits common man, we wonder what he must be going through and what steps is the government taking that it pains a little less. Hudhud's disaster management is truely appreciable in this regard. The preparedness of the Navy, the NDRF and the state administration saved a lot of loss. Even now, after the cyclone, it did not take long for them to jump into action.
Both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have launched massive efforts to restore power lines and clear roads.
Although the death tolls are debatable, government sources have revealed that most of the deaths were caused due to falling of trees on the victims.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N chandrababu Naidu has said that he would camp in Visakhapatnam to oversee the relief operations, in view of his assurance in Rajamundhry when he said that the government's priority is to restore access to affected villages, establish communication networks and take care of those provided shelter.
Close to 5 lakh people have been provided shelter in relief camps, said Parakala Prabhakar, Advisor (Communications) to the AP government. The state government has further appointed 5 senior IAS officials to supervise the relief operations.
