Cyclone Biparjoy: 707 Babies Born During Evacuation In Gujarat

The Gujarat government reportedly evacuated about a lakh people from coastal areas as a precautionary measure over Cyclone Biparjoy.

Out of 1 lakh people, there were 1,152 pregnant women and among them, 707 pregnant women have given birth to babies, Desh Gujarat website reported citing a press release from the government.

According to the report, Kutch district witnessed a total of 348 recorded births, while Rajkot saw 100, Devbhoomi Dwarka had 93, Gir Somnath had 69, Porbandar had 30, Junagadh had 25, Jamnagar had 17, Rajkot Mahanagarpalika had 12, Junagadh Municipal Corporation had eight, Jamnagar Municipal Corporation had four, and Morbi District had one recorded birth.

Also, a video of a lady cop cradling a four-day-old baby in her arms during the cyclone Biparjoy evacuation operations in Gujarat had gone viral.

After churning across the Arabian Sea for more than 10 days, cyclone Biparjoy made landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat on Thursday and left a trail of destruction in the western coastal state's Kutch and Saurashtra regions.

The cyclone has now moved into Rajasthan in the form of a deep depression.

Meanwhile, Gujarat CM has said that the state was able to a big calamity without any casualties. "NDRF, SDRF and other agencies worked tirelessly to mitigate any damage caused by the cyclone. This was possible under the guidance of PM Modi & HM Amit Shah. I am grateful to the people of the state for being supportive. Now the big challenge is to restore and get life back on track, all the agencies will work on it now and we will soon achieve success in it too," says Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel.
