Two Arrested for Rs 9 Crore Cyber Fraud in Share Market Investment Scheme
In a significant crackdown on cyber fraud, two individuals were apprehended on Thursday for their involvement in a scam amounting to Rs 9 crore, targeting a businessman from Noida under the guise of investment opportunities in the share market. The businessman, residing in Sector 41, fell prey to this elaborate scheme after joining a WhatsApp group that purportedly offered share market and trading tips. Rajat Bothra, the victim, reported to the police that he was added to the group on May 1 and began with minor investments, which escalated to a total of Rs 9.09 crore across 13 transactions within a month before he realized the fraudulent nature of the scheme.

An FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 36, Noida, propelling an investigation that led to the arrest of Akram, aged 28, and Sushil Kumar, aged 45. According to police reports, these individuals were operatives for the mastermind identified only as Shaan. Their primary role was to facilitate the transfer of defrauded funds through various bank and digital accounts. The police's diligent efforts in the investigation also led to the recovery of Rs 1.64 crore from the accused's bank accounts and an additional Rs 6.99 lakh in cryptocurrency.
The authorities are actively pursuing other members associated with this cybercrime network. The arrests mark a critical step in dismantling a sophisticated operation that preyed on individuals seeking investment opportunities in the financial markets. This case underscores the importance of vigilance in digital transactions and the sophistication with which cybercriminals operate.
The police's swift action highlights their commitment to combating cyber fraud and protecting citizens from such deceptive schemes. As investigations continue, there is a concerted effort to apprehend all individuals involved in this scam and bring them to justice.
