Curfew lifted from most parts of Srinagar
Srinagar, Aug 29: Authorities on Monday lifted curfew in most parts of Srinagar except Nowhatta and Maharajganj areas after a continuous 51-day long shutdown.
The decision was taken following improvement in situation, curfew was lifted from Anantnag and major areas of Srinagar this morning.
Increased movement of vehicular traffic and people was observed in major areas of the valley including city Srinagar," said a statement issued by the public relation department of Jammu and Kashmir government.
However,restrictions under section 144/CrPC continued to be in force in the valley. Kashmir has been witnessing unrest for the past 51 days triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.
PM's mention of Kashmir situation in radio address welcomed
As many as 68 persons have been killed and thousands others injured in violent clashes between protestors and security forces.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up the Kashmir situation in his radio address "Mann ki Baat" on Sunday.
