First, his party defending him and now Ravindra Gaikwad's wife justified his actions by accusing Air India crew of 'rude behaviour' and using the prime minister's name 'disrespectfully'. Describing her MP husband as 'well known' and 'friendly' in Osmanabad, his constituency, Gaikwad's wife Usha blamed the crew for the incident.

"I have never seen this side of his and it is because of the rude behaviour of Air India staff. I had never imagined my husband beating someone," she told the media. Gaikwad was forced to take a train to Pune after airlines refused to let him fly from Delhi. "My husband has been a two-time MLA and is now the MP. He has been a teacher and is well known in Osmanabad for his friendly nature. Anyone who knows him personally would vouch for him. His anger was triggered by the crew," she reiterated.

Usha claimed that she spoke to her husband after learning of the incident and was told that the staff behaved rudely with him despite the fact that he was an MP. "My husband only wanted to register a complaint against Air India's poor service but instead of taking down his complaint, they kept on arguing. He lost his cool when the staff used the name of the prime minister in a disrespectful manner," she said.
