Covid-19 Latest Updates: Coronavirus Cases In India Cross 6000 Mark, 4 Deaths In Last 24 Hours

India has seen a rise in Covid-19 cases, with active infections reaching 6000, as per the Union Health Ministry's data on Sunday. In the past day, 391 new cases and four deaths were reported. The fatalities occurred in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Mizoram, and Tripura reported no new infections.

Since January 2025, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of Covid-related deaths at 18. Kerala follows with 12 deaths. Delhi and Karnataka have each reported seven fatalities. Tamil Nadu has five deaths, while Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have two each. Rajasthan and West Bengal have each reported one death during this period.

Covid-19 Cases Surge in Key States

Kerala remains the most affected state with 127 new cases. Gujarat follows with 102 cases. Delhi has reported 73 new infections and West Bengal has recorded 26. This increase has led the central government to conduct mock drills to evaluate hospital readiness across India.

A total of 5,484 patients have recovered and been discharged since January 2025. Of these recoveries, 760 occurred in June alone. Despite the rise in cases, some states like Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Mizoram, and Tripura have not reported any new infections in the last day.

Recent Fatalities Highlight Vulnerable Groups

In Madhya Pradesh, a pregnant woman aged 45 died after experiencing seizures; she later tested positive for Covid-19. In Maharashtra, a man aged 63 with hyperthyroidism succumbed to the virus. Kerala saw a death of a man aged 59 who was battling stage 4 lung cancer due to Covid-19 complications.

Tamil Nadu reported the death of a diabetic man aged 79 who had been bedridden for a month. He died from Covid-induced pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. These cases highlight how vulnerable groups are severely affected by the virus.
