Corporates back Modi as he offers to help them: Karat
Palakkad (Ker), Nov 27: CPI(M) today said BJP led by Narendra Modi was getting unprecedented support from big corporates and business houses as it had given clear signals that it would serve their interests better than the Congress-led UPA if voted to power.

Inaugurating the three-day plenum of Kerala unit of CPI(M) here, party General Secretary Prakash Karat said the objective of the Left parties was to oppose Congress and BJP since it alone had the credibility and confidence of the people to take this fight forward. "Narendra Modi is one political leader who has the unprecedented support of all big corporates and business houses in the country...This signals BJP would be a better servitor of the corporates than Congress," Karat said.

Another danger posed by Modi-led BJP was that it stood for implementing the "Hindutva communal agenda". "We have seen for the last one year, all over the country, a systematic communal campaign to raise tension and flare up communal clashes. All these were part of an orchestrated campaign for creating communal polarisation for electoral gain for BJP and Narendra Modi," he said.

Hitting out at the UPA's policies, he said its neoliberal path not only led to soaring inflation but also paved the way for corruption in all sectors. The CPI(M) would fight the 2014 Lok Sabha elections against the "vicious communal agenda" set by BJP and the "corrupt policies" of Congress-led UPA government, he said.

Tearing into the foreign policy of the Manmohan Singh government, he said the country had to pay a heavy price on the fuel front for refusing to support Iran due to pressure from America. It was under American pressure that India did not push for Iran-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline for the sake of civil nuclear deal with the US, he claimed.

"People are disenchanted with the price rise, unemployment and corruption for which the UPA government is to blame," he said. The plenum was being held mostly to discuss and take decisions on strengthening organisational structure of the party and rectify its weaknesses and lapses.

Six Politburo members, including Sitaram Yechuri and S Ramachandran Pillai from the party, are attending the plenum.
