Coromandel Train Accident: A Look At Earlier Mishaps
In one of the worst railway disasters in India, at least 288 people were killed and more than 900 injured when three trains collided one after another in a horrific sequence in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday.

The history of Coromandel train accidents includes several notable incidents:
- On February 13, 2009, Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Jajpur Keonjhar Road, resulting in 15 deaths and several injuries. The cause remains unknown.
- On December 6, 2011, the Coromandel Express derailed near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The accident resulted in the death of 32 passengers and injuries to many others.
- On January 14, 2012, Fire broke out in Chennai-Howrah Coromandel Express' general compartment near Lingaraj Railway Station. No injuries reported. Investigation ordered.
- On November 19, 2013, a collision occurred between the Coromandel Express and a stationary goods train near Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. This accident claimed the lives of two people and caused injuries to several passengers.
- On April 18, 2015, Coromandel Express catches fire at Nidadavolu Junction, damaging two bogies.
- Another incident took place on February 13, 2019, when the Coromandel Express collided with a truck at an unmanned level crossing near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported in this accident.
