Controversial 'The Kerala Story' is Now Second Highest Grossing Indian Film of 2023

'The Kerala Story' has continued to pull the audience to theatres as it has now become the second highest-grossing movie of 2023.

After Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan', it has now become the second biggest hit at the Indian box office. The movie has minted Rs 156.69 (nett) in India alone.

The controversial film was released on May 5 and met with mixed reviews. However, it got a solid start as it made Rs 8.05 crore on the first day. The movie ended its first weekend at Rs 35.49 crore in India.

Following good word-of-mouth, 'The Kerala Story' went on to collect Rs 81.14 crore in the first week. The best part of its success story is that in its second weekend, the flick raked in Rs 55.6 crore, much higher than the first weekend.

The story of 'The Kerala Story' revolves around 3 women who are converted and then sold off as sex slaves to the Islamic State.

The gross collection of the film in India stands at Rs 192.3 crore. Whereas the worldwide collection of the flick is Rs 192.3 crore.

Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' remains the highest-grossing film of 2023 by doing a lifetime collection of Rs 543.05 crore. Ranbir Kapoor's 'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar' is in third place by raking in Rs 149.05 crore in India.

Salman Khan's 'Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan' (Rs 110.33 crore) and Ajay Devgn's 'Bholaa' (Rs 82.04 crore) are in the next two places, respectively.

Sudipto Sen-directed flick has Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani in the cast.

'The Kerala Story' has been severely criticised by politicians in Kerala accusing the flick of projecting Kerala and Muslims in a bad light. Also, the political leaders including Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the film could create communal tension in the state while seeking a ban.

However, the courts have refused to ban the movie.
