New Delhi, March 9: A heart-wrenching incident occurred in the Geeta Colony area of East Delhi, where a 12-year-old boy lost his life after a heavy concrete girder beam fell on him at a construction site of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The tragic event unfolded on Friday afternoon, leaving the boy's family and the local community in deep shock and grief.
Protest and Action
In the wake of the accident, the boy's family members and neighbors gathered at the construction site to express their outrage and demand justice. They held a protest, calling for strict action against the contractors and the construction company responsible for the incident. The protestors also attempted to vandalize the site, but the timely intervention of the police prevented any further escalation.
Police Investigation
The Delhi Police promptly registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and Section 304A (causing death by negligence), against the contractors involved in the construction project. A thorough investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident and determine any lapses in safety measures.
Preliminary Findings
Preliminary inquiries conducted by the police revealed that the heavy concrete slabs were haphazardly stacked at the construction site, posing a significant safety hazard. Moreover, the area where the accident occurred was not adequately secured or guarded by the construction company, further contributing to the tragic incident.
Victim's Background
The deceased boy, whose identity has not been disclosed, resided with his family in Multani Mohalla, located near the construction site in Geeta Colony. Originally from Bangladesh, the family had made Delhi their home. It is believed that the boy may have been playing at the site when the fatal accident occurred.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Assistance
Upon receiving a distress call around 1.30 pm, the police swiftly dispatched a team to the scene. The boy was found lying under the heavy beam, and a hydraulic crane was promptly brought in to lift the beam and rescue the trapped child. Despite immediate medical attention, the boy succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead at the hospital.
Post-Incident Developments
Following the tragic incident, the boy's body was taken to the Sabzi Mandi mortuary, where it was handed over to the grieving family after the completion of autopsy procedures. The police have assured the family and the local community that a thorough investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for the negligence that led to the boy's untimely death.
The tragic accident that claimed the life of a young boy at the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway construction site has highlighted the urgent need for stringent safety measures and proper oversight of construction activities. The authorities must ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future, and those who fail to uphold safety standards are held accountable for their actions.
