Congress won't allow students' voice to be crushed: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Feb 18: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met President Pranab Mukherjee over the JNU row, vowing his party won't allow the government to "crush" the students' voice in India.

"It is not the government's job to destroy institutions in India," Gandhi said, after he met the president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

He accused the government of imposing the "flawed" RSS ideology over the student community in India to "crush their imagination, their dreams".

"The Congress won't allow it to happen. It has damaged India's global image."

The Congress leader was accompanied, among others by Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad for the meeting with the president.

Reacting to BJP's criticism over supporting agitating Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students over the arrest of their union leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Gandhi said: "Nationalism runs in my blood. I have seen my family sacrifice for the nation again and again."

He however said that if anybody has said anything against the country, "they should be dealt according to the law".
