Congress welcomes triple talaq verdict, calls it progressive decision
The Congress on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict striking down instant triple talaq.

Congress leader Manish Tewari tweeted,"The Supreme Court decision striking down triple talaq 3:2 is a progressive decision that must be welcomed by all right thinkers."
Comparing the decision with the abolishment of practice of untouchability, Tewari said that something which was affecting the rights of Muslim women has been abolished.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down instant triple talaq or talaq-biddat. This practise was challenged by several women in the Supreme Court who termed the practise as unconstitutional and violative of their fundamental rights.
The court in a 3:2 verdict struck down talaq-e-biddat and directed the centre to come up with a law to govern Muslim marriages and divorces.
