Congress Telangana Unit Gives Kharge Nod to Finalize Rajya Sabha Candidates

The Pradesh Election Committee of the Congress Telangana unit convened on Tuesday, January 30, and passed a resolution empowering party president Mallikarjun Kharge to finalize candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The state has three vacant seats in the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
Unanimous Resolution Passed
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy disclosed that a unanimous resolution was adopted, granting Kharge and the Congress Central Election Committee the authority to select the candidates. The meeting was attended by Deepa Dasmunshi, the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Telangana in-charge, and other prominent leaders. Discussions centered around the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections, leading to the finalization of an action plan.
Lok Sabha Preparations
With regard to the Lok Sabha elections, Reddy, who also serves as the Congress Telangana unit chief, announced that applications from potential candidates will be accepted at Gandhi Bhavan, the party's state headquarters. Telangana has 17 Lok Sabha seats, and the Congress aims to finalize its candidates by February 15. The party's goal is to secure victory in all 17 constituencies.
BJP and BRS Seen as One
Reddy expressed his view that there is no discernible difference between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), stating, "We don't see any difference between the BJP and the BRS. They are one and the same."
Caste Survey to be Conducted
The chief minister also reaffirmed the state government's commitment to conducting a caste survey, as previously announced. A resolution to this effect will be presented and passed in the state assembly shortly. Reddy emphasized that the survey will focus on the Backward Classes (BC) and is in line with the commitment made by Rahul Gandhi.
