Congress Slams PM Modi’s 'Main bhi manushya hoon, devta thoda hoon' Remark As ‘Damage Control’ After Backlash
Congress on Friday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remark, where he said, "Mai bhi manushya hoon, devta thoda hoon" (I am human, but a little divine), in a podcast. The party claimed this was an attempt at 'damage control' following his previous controversial statement about not being 'born biologically.'
In a video posted by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on the social media platform X, he referred to an interview with PM Modi from May 2024, where the Prime Minister had stated that he felt he was "sent by God" rather than being born biologically. Ramesh contrasted this with Modi's recent comment on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath's podcast, 'People By WTF,' where he said that, like all humans, he can make mistakes and is not a God.

"This from a man who proclaimed his non-biological status just eight months ago. This is clearly damage control," Ramesh wrote in the post.
In the podcast, PM Modi explained that when he became Chief Minister of Gujarat, he publicly acknowledged that humans, including himself, can make mistakes. He further added, "When I became CM, I gave a speech. I said publicly that people commit mistakes," Modi said during the podcast.
PM Modi's comments come months after his earlier statement in which he claimed that he was not biologically born but was instead "sent by God." This remark, made during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, sparked strong criticism from political opponents, particularly Congress. The Prime Minister had shared that he believed his life's energy came from a divine source, particularly after the death of his mother.
The podcast with Kamath was Modi's first appearance on the platform. When Kamath expressed his nervousness about the conversation, Modi humorously responded, "I don't know how it will go with your audience."
