Congress Criticizes Government's Handling of Health Crisis in Maharashtra Hospital
The Congress has condemned the BJP following 24 deaths in a government hospital in Maharashtras Nanded. Former party leader Rahul Gandhi criticizes the government's funding priorities, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra calls for strict action and compensation for affected families.
The Indian National Congress has launched a severe critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the tragic death of 24 individuals, including 12 infants, within a span of 24 hours at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded. The Congress leaders have alleged that while the BJP-led government spends extensively on publicity campaigns, it fails to allocate sufficient funds for essential children's medicines.
Accusations and Demands from Congress Leaders

Rahul Gandhi, former party chief of Congress, expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to all affected families. In an online post on X platform, he underscored that this heartbreaking news was indicative of severe medical shortages in the state-run hospital. He further lambasted the ruling BJP government for its expenditure priorities. "The BJP government spends thousands of crores of rupees on its publicity but there is no money for medicines for children? In the eyes of the BJP, lives of poor have no value," he alleged.
In addition to Rahul Gandhi's accusations, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra - another key figure in Congress - also voiced her concerns regarding this incident. She demanded stringent action against those responsible and insisted on compensation provision for families who had lost their loved ones due to these unfortunate circumstances.
Probe into Tragic Incident
A top health official from Maharashtra confirmed earlier in the day about these deaths occurring within last 24 hours at a Nanded-based government hospital. To investigate this matter thoroughly and ascertain exact causes behind such high fatalities within such short time period, a three-member expert committee has been set up by authorities.
Critique Continues
The criticism from Congress did not stop with just Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi; other prominent members like General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also questioned the BJP government's priorities and handling of healthcare facilities, especially during such critical times.
In conclusion, this tragic incident has once again brought to light the ongoing debates regarding public health infrastructure and funding in India. The accusations made by Congress leaders against the ruling party highlight a broader concern about allocation of resources and policy-making for healthcare sector. While it is crucial that those responsible for these deaths are held accountable, it is equally important to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future. This necessitates a thorough review of current policies and practices, along with implementation of comprehensive measures aimed at strengthening public health systems across the country.
