Congress Unveils First List of 9 Candidates for J&K Assembly Polls

The Congress party has released its initial list of nine candidates for the upcoming three-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This announcement follows a seat-sharing agreement with the National Conference (NC). The Congress will contest 32 seats, while the NC will field candidates in 51 constituencies. Additionally, one seat each has been allocated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP).

Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the party's general secretary, will contest from Dooru, and former state unit chief Vikar Rasool Wani will run from Banihal. Other candidates include Surinder Singh Channi from Tral, Amanullah Mantoo from Devsar, Peerzada Mohammad Syed from Anantnag, Shaikh Zafarullah from Inderwal, Nadeem Sharief from Bhadarwah, Sheikh Riyaz from Doda, and Pradeep Kumar Bhagat from Doda West.

The seat-sharing arrangement was announced at a joint press conference held at NC president Farooq Abdullah's residence in Srinagar.
