Congress to Hold Nationwide Protests Against Attacks on Bharat Jodo Yatra in Assam

The Congress party has announced nationwide demonstrations to protest the alleged attacks on its Bharat Jodo Yatra in Assam. The party accuses the states chief minister of using goons to target the yatra.

The Congress party has announced that it will hold demonstrations across state and district headquarters in India to protest against the alleged attacks on the convoys of its Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. The party's general secretary, organisation, K C Venugopal, made the announcement in a late-night post on social media.

Congress Takes a Stand: Nationwide Protests Against Assam Yatra Attacks

Planned Attacks on Bharat Jodo Yatra

Venugopal alleged that since the yatra's entry into Assam, the state's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been carrying out relentless attacks on the party's convoys, properties, and leaders using his supporters. He described the situation as a matter of serious concern for every Indian, as it exposes the fascist and hooliganistic tendencies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Nationwide Protests

Venugopal instructed all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) and District Congress Committees (DCCs) to hold large-scale protests on the evening of January 22nd to expose how the Modi-led BJP is allegedly killing democracy in Assam through its corrupt chief minister. He emphasized that the party's fight for social, economic, and political justice will continue undeterred despite the attacks.

Yatra's Journey and Disruptions

In a letter to all PCC chiefs, state in-charges, AICC secretaries, and heads of frontal organizations, departments, and cells, Venugopal provided details about the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi. The yatra, which commenced in Manipur on January 14th, has successfully traversed through Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and is now in Assam. However, Venugopal expressed regret that the BJP, particularly Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been desperately trying to disrupt the peaceful yatra.

Instances of Violence

Venugopal highlighted several incidents of planned attacks on the yatra's convoys and the tearing down of posters by BJP workers. He also alleged that a deliberately assembled crowd of BJP workers attacked the convoy led by Rahul Gandhi, resulting in injuries to several party leaders, including the Assam PCC President.

Motives Behind the Attacks

Venugopal asserted that these attacks are nothing more than desperate attempts to mask the administrative failures and corruption of the Assam chief minister and the BJP government at the Centre. He emphasized the need for the party to stand firm and united in the face of such blatant attempts to suppress their cause.

Call for Massive Protests

In light of the attacks, Venugopal urged PCCs to organize massive protest demonstrations in state and district headquarters on the evening of January 22nd. He called for a strong collective response to oppose the violent attacks on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Assam Congress Chief Assaulted

Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah was allegedly assaulted, while general secretary Jairam Ramesh's car was targeted in Assam's Sonitpur district during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on Sunday. The party has demanded a judicial inquiry into the attack on Borah, alleging the involvement of a BJP MLA and his supporters.

Rahul Gandhi Mobbed

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also mobbed at a roadside eatery in Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday evening. The crowd raised slogans against him and displayed placards with messages such as "Anyay Yatra" and "Rakibul go back," referring to Samaguri Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain.

The Congress party's announcement of nationwide protests reflects its determination to resist the alleged attacks on its Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and uphold its commitment to justice and democracy.
