Congress may project Priyanka Gandhi as CM face in UP Assembly polls

Lucknow, Mar 3: In what could be termed as a masterstroke from the Congress in the high-staked Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017, the party may project Gandhi scion Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as its CM candidate.

As per an Economic Times report, political strategist Prashant Kishor, roped in by the party for Punjab and 2017 UP assembly elections, might ask the top brass of grand-old-party of India to project Sonia Gandhi's daughter as it's CM face.

Priyanka Gandhi enjoys immense popularity in UP.

Kishor, the star poll strategist known for designing Narendra Modi's campaign in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and scripted history by helping Nitish Kumar to win high-staked Bihar polls in December, last year, will be handling Congress's campaign for the upcoming UP polls.

Prashant Kishor was roped in by Congress after party vice-president Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with him to discuss UP polls. He will directly report to Rahul Gandhi.

With Prashant Kishor's help Congress would be hoping to regain its lost ground in Hindi-heartland of UP, that once used to be its stronghold. The party had won just 2 out of 80 seats it had contested in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The party had done considerably well in the Bihar Assembly Elections and wants to improve its condition in the UP polls.

Priyanka Gandhi enjoys immense popularity amongst UP voters as they (voters) see a glimpse of Indira Gandhi in her.
