Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to Sound Poll Bugle in Dehradun Today
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will address a public meeting in Dehradun on Sunday to launch the partys campaign in the state for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The meeting will focus on justice for all sections of society, including women, unemployed youths, and farmers.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is set to arrive in Dehradun on Sunday to address a public meeting and officially launch the party's campaign in the state for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This visit holds significant importance as Kharge embarks on a nationwide tour to galvanize support and mobilize the party's cadre.

Justice for All: The Focus of Rahul Gandhi's Nyay Yatra
Senior party leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat expressed gratitude for Kharge choosing Uttarakhand as the venue to deliver his call for change. Rawat emphasized that the party president's program aligns with the ongoing Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, which seeks to provide justice to all sections of society, including women, unemployed youth, and farmers.
Venue Change for Kharge's Public Meeting
Initially, the Congress party had sought permission from the district administration to hold the public meeting at the Parade ground. However, due to ongoing renovations as part of the Dehradun Smart City project, the venue was unavailable. Consequently, the party had to shift the location to the Bannu School ground in the Race Course area.
Congress Alleges BJP Conspiracy to Disrupt Programs
The Congress party raised concerns about alleged attempts by the ruling BJP government to sabotage its programs across the country. They pointed to the disruption of Rahul Gandhi's Nyay Yatra in Assam as evidence of this conspiracy. In response, Congress workers staged a dharna outside the state police headquarters in Dehradun to protest the denial of permission for Kharge's helicopter to land at the GTC helipad.
Dharna Ends After Intervention by Chief Minister
Led by PCC president Karan Mahara and Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, Congress workers assembled outside the state police chief's office to express their protest. Despite repeated requests from officials, including Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh, the workers remained steadfast in their protest. However, the dharna was eventually called off following the intervention of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who consented to allow Kharge's helicopter to land at the Bannu School ground.
Uttarakhand's Lok Sabha Seats
Uttarakhand has five Lok Sabha seats, all of which are currently held by the ruling BJP. The Congress party aims to make significant gains in the upcoming elections, capitalizing on the public's desire for change and justice.
