Congress Leader Consults Moosewala's Father for Bathinda Election Strategy

In a significant political development, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa made headlines on Monday as he engaged with Balkaur Singh, the father of the late singer Sidhu Moosewala, sparking discussions about the upcoming elections. The visit, which also included Congress candidate Jeet Mohinder Sidhu for the Bathinda seat, took place at Moosewala's family residence in Mansa district. This move comes amid speculations that Balkaur Singh might run for the Bathinda seat as an Independent in the forthcoming elections.

Congress Eyes Moosewalas Legacy in Polls

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, widely known as Sidhu Moosewala, was tragically shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, 2022. Following the meeting with Moosewala's father, Bajwa disclosed that the Congress high command had initially wanted Balkaur Singh to contest the Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket. The intention was for him to represent in Parliament and seek justice for his son. However, Balkaur Singh declined the offer due to personal reasons, leading to the selection of Jeet Mohinder Sidhu as the Congress candidate from Bathinda.

Bajwa, who serves as the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, emphasized that the Congress's Lok Sabha poll campaign in Punjab would focus on Moosewala's legacy. In a subsequent statement, Moosewala's uncle, Chamkaur Singh, expressed the family's commitment to ensuring the Congress party's success in the Bathinda parliamentary constituency.

It is noteworthy that Sidhu Moosewala had previously contested the Mansa assembly seat on a Congress ticket in the 2022 assembly polls but was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by a significant margin of over 63,000 votes. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for June 1, will see polling for 13 seats in Punjab.

This political engagement underscores a unique blend of politics and personal tragedy, highlighting how Moosewala's legacy continues to influence political narratives in Punjab. As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Bathinda and how these developments might impact voter sentiment and party strategies.
