Congress-NC Seat-Sharing Deal Unsettles BJP in Jammu and Kashmir
The Congress party announced on Friday that its seat-sharing arrangement with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir has caused the BJP to panic, leading to negative political tactics. They noted that the general sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir is against the BJP-led central government, especially the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

J&K Congress chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma stated that the BJP is in a state of panic following the seat-sharing agreement between his party and the NC. He criticised the BJP and its home minister for pointing fingers at parties they previously allied with in J&K and at the Centre. Sharma remarked, "The BJP and the home minister should first explain why they formed a government with the PDP, a party they now accuse of being far more problematic than the NC on these issues."
Seat-Sharing Agreement Impact
AICC secretary Pranav Jha expressed optimism about the alliance's benefits for Jammu and Kashmir and its people. He mentioned that residents are pleased about finally having a chance to form a government after a long period. However, he noted that their happiness would have been greater if elections were held after restoring statehood. Jha said, "I believe this alliance will benefit Jammu and Kashmir as well as its people."
Sharma also accused the BJP of opportunism, highlighting their practice of sharing power with parties one day and labelling them as separatists or pro-Pakistan the next. He emphasised that Congress opposes politics based on hate and division and remains firm on issues of terrorism and national interests.
Political Sentiments in J&K
The prevailing sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir is reportedly against the BJP-led central government. This sentiment is particularly strong regarding the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Congress believes this alliance will enable people to form a decisive, strong, and full-majority government.
The Congress party's stance is clear: they are against divisive politics and do not compromise on terrorism or national interests. Sharma added, "The Congress is against the politics of hate and division, and it never compromises on the issue of terrorism and national interests."
The recent developments indicate a significant shift in political dynamics within Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress-NC alliance aims to challenge the BJP's influence in the region by capitalising on local discontent with current central policies.
