Congress MLA's tough SMS to Rahul: Revamp party to fight BJP or join hands with SP

Lucknow, Nov 6: A day after AICC member Karti Chidambaram questioned the way party affairs were managed in Tamil Nadu, a Congress MLA from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday called for revamping the organisation for strengthening the party to fight the challenge posed by a resurgent BJP or join hands with ruling Samajwadi Party to take on the communal forces.

Congress MLA from Banda assembly constituency Vivek Kumar Singh said he had sent an SMS message to party vice president Rahul Gandhi yesterday, expressing his displeasure over the state of affairs in Congress, especially in his constituency, and added the party was not in any position to counter BJP.

Talking to PTI, Singh said that dedicated workers are being sidelined and the manner in which the organisation is being managed, it cannot deal with the BJP.

"Otherwise it would be better if we joined hands with Mulayam Singh Yadav so that we can fight the communal forces," he said.

The Congress MLA said that he has also sent the copy of the SMS to UPCC president Nirmal Khatri and to AICC in-charge of state affairs Madhusudan Mistri.

To a question, Singh said he has not met the SP chief recently but he had very good family relations with him. Jolted by the exit of senior leader GK Vasan over 'mishandling' of party affairs, Karti, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, disapproved of the role of high command's observers in managing affairs of the states.

"Thought should be given to the present managerial structure in regard to the high command's observers. Managing party affairs in states and changes that are necessary should be made," Karti, an AICC member, had said.
