Congress Leader Sachin Pilot Meets Protesting Wrestlers

Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Friday met the protesting wrestlers at Delhi's Jantar Mantar amid a power tussle with chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

India's star wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar, demanding the arrest of BJP MP and WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually harassing seven women grapplers, including a minor.

Pilot questioned the central government over the delay in justice for protesting wrestlers.

"For the last 27 days, the wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar. They have made India proud by winning medals at international events. The government should look into their ordeals and find a solution without delay," Pilot told reporters.

"If the youth, farmers and wrestlers are not happy then the country can't prosper. The pain and issues of wrestlers must be addressed and the government should act swiftly on the grievances of women grapplers and justice should be delivered," Pilot demanded.

Several leaders, farmers, including Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala had also visited the protest site and met the wrestlers, and expressed solidarity with teir demands.

Meanwhile, Pilot had last week launched a Jan Sangharsh Yatra to raise issues of corruption and government recruitment exam paper leaks.

He threatened to launch a massive movement in Rajasthan if action on his demands is not taken by the month-end.

Pilot demanded disbanding of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and its reconstitution, compensation for those affected by government job exam paper leak cases, and a high-level probe into charges of corruption he has levelled against the previous BJP government.
