Congress Selects C P Joshi for Bhilwara Seat, Revises Candidate List

In a strategic move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has made significant changes to its candidate lineup in Rajasthan, showcasing a dynamic approach to its election campaign. The party announced the replacement of its Bhilwara parliamentary constituency candidate, introducing Rajasthan Assembly Speaker C P Joshi as the new face for the upcoming polls. This decision comes as part of the Congress's latest candidate list, which includes three new candidates and two replacements.

Damodar Gurjar, who was initially fielded from Bhilwara, will now contest from the Rajsamand seat. This change follows Sudarshan Rawat's withdrawal from the Rajsamand race, citing personal reasons for his inability to participate in the election. The Congress party has been proactive in adjusting its strategy, ensuring strong representation across the state.

With these recent updates, Congress has now announced candidates for 22 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan. The party is strategically aligning with other political entities, leaving Sikar and Nagaur seats to its INDI alliance partners, CPI M and RLP, respectively. The anticipation builds as the announcement for the Banswara seat candidate remains pending.

Rajasthan is set to experience the Lok Sabha elections in two phases. The first phase will see 12 constituencies going to polls on April 19, followed by the remaining 13 seats on April 26. Additionally, a bypoll for the Bagidora assembly constituency under the Banswara Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for April 26. This by-election is necessitated by Congress MLA Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya's recent departure from Congress to join BJP, where he is now contesting from the Banswara seat.

This reshuffling of candidates by Congress underscores the party's intent to optimize its electoral prospects in Rajasthan. As the state gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, these strategic moves are closely watched by political analysts and voters alike, setting the stage for a highly contested battle.
